Montag

I watched Rashoman again last night. The two other people in the room fell asleep on me. Then I watched Godard's My Life to Live, then the Last Emperor again, then Manhattan Night Mystery, then Fellini's 8 1/2 again, then I went to Lincoln Center to see Markov and Elizabeth Woo's concert (thanks to Rebecca's parents), and surprisingly, terrifyingly enough I went to Redeemer to hear that famous pastor Dr. whatever his face and uh... he's terrible? I dont understand the hype over his "great" sermons. I'm not even going to get into it. Presbyterian Christianity disappoints me in its egregiously twisted historical proclamations.
Anyway, now I'm going to watch Godard's Pierrot le Fou, I think or Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs? Oh, alright both. Can I handle that much French New Wave? They get kinda cheesy sometimes, too avant-garde hippie "realism" cool.
I should've got a movie that would've made me cry, you know a Holocaust or mass murder at political upheaval epic with a tragic soundtrack. I need one of those before I sleep.

Sonata in G minor "Devil's Trill" Giuseppe Tartini. "According to legend and folklore, Tartini was inspired to write the sonata after the Devil appeared at the foot of his bed playing the violin. Upon waking from the dream, Tartini immediately wrote down the melody."

Listening to it, I thought Elizabeth turned into the devil on stage, twiddling on his fiddle amidst a fire. I saw it and I felt it. Then I looked at the program- I had no idea what the piece was until after it was over and it was called the "Devil's Trill". Awesome when that happens. That second, those seconds of unexpected, exquisite coincidences. Love them. Live for them.

Oh almost forgot, I want to see the Japanese film festival they're having at BAM.
